About This Site
This site was developed using the Bluefish html editor.
The operating system and tools used were Mandrake and Debian GNU/Linux (both are highly recommended. Call me if you need a hand with an install on the Westside).
Graphics were made by the Gimp (there used to be more, but I switched from using images in titles to using stylesheets for effect). For more information, visit the Free Software Foundation, as their work laid the foundation for the software used to create these pages.
It was tested using Mozilla (more standards compliant than Internet Explorer) to test the CSS layout. Hint for IE 5 users - smallcaps show up as allcaps in IE, and look like crap. Use a browser that supports stylesheets. Try the Mozilla nightly builds - how can you resist software which promises the following:
It might delete all your files and cause your computer to burst into flames.
The site is also tested with and viewable using text-only browsers such as Lynx and Links. It should be viewable in whatever you happen to use, but it looks best using standards-compliant software. It is in transition to having all formatting completed through CSS, so that the html will only include markup (it may take some time to get the older stuff converted). There are multiple advantages to this:
- increased accessibility to the visually impaired;
- better display on small screens such as cell phones and palmtop devices;
- standards compliance;and
- ease of future conversion to XML.
